My friends at Equinox asked myself and fellow bloggers Vanessa Cesario and Sasha Exeter to let them have a glimpse into what “A Day In The Fit Life” would look like. I’ve said this before but living a healthy lifestyle incorporates a lot more than just going to the gym, it’s all about making choices that contribute to living the best life that you can. For me, juicing, training & recovery are three things that I regularly make time for that contribute to my “Fit Life”.
There are so many health benefits that you can get from incorporating juicing into your life. You can do it yourself, or you can purchase cold pressed juices from a variety of companies. There’s a lot of flavors to choose from and they all serve different purposes. The Apple Ginger Glow from Fresh has recently become a favourite of mine and encourages cleansing, hydration, and energy.
Training has become such an integral part of my life. So many people take their bodies for granted and I’ve made a commitment to myself and my body to take care of it the best way that I can. Whether it be running, participating in a group glass or working out with a personal trainer it’s important to make time for physical activity throughout the week. For me, I like to start my day off with a workout, I feel like it sets the tone for the rest of the day and starts my morning off on a positive note. My advice to people when it comes to working out is, it’s never too late to start and try to incorporate new things on a regular basis. – It keeps working out fun and fresh! What I’m Wearing

As important as I think it is to incorporate training into your lifestyle, it’s just as important to give your body time to recover. Three things that I do to help speed up recovery. 1. Rolling out with a foam roller post workout. 2. Giving my body the proper nutrients it needs throughout the day. 3. Sleep, it sounds simple but try getting in a good 8 hours of sleep regularly and you’ll see the difference that it can make.
Over the last few months, Equinox has really helped facilitate my goal of living a healthier life in so many ways other than just being a place to workout. By having a juice bar within the facilities, knowledgeable staff, top of the line equipment and a spa it really does live up to it’s motto #itsNotFitnessItsLife
One of the most important things that I take into consideration when joining a gym is the diversity of classes offered. If you’ve been to Equinox, you know first hand how seriously they take their group classes. You can try anything from yoga to boxing, pilates to precision running, athletic conditioning to high intensity training. As for me, I’m a sucker for anything that gets my heart rate up and keeps me sweating from the beginning to the end, so I tend to lean towards the high intensity classes. MetCon3 happens to be one of those classes and has very quickly become one of my favourites to attend.
Using varied equipment each class, the only thing that remains consistent is the blue print on how the class is going to run and knowing that you’re going to walk out of their drenched in sweat. Each class starts with a warm up, followed by a set of exercises that you’ll repeat 3 times throughout the workout targeting all areas of your body, ending off with a cool down. MetCon3 is one of those programs that it doesn’t matter what level of fitness you’re at, you’ll find it difficult while participating but you’ll feel amazing once its completed. If you’re looking for a new way to spice up your regular training routine, this is one class that I’d recommend taking for a test drive!

2014 has been an interesting year to say the very least. It has brought a lot of changes in my life but one thing that has remained consistent is my desire to stay healthy and active.
I wish I could say that Canada was one of those places that the weather permitted outdoor workouts all year round but unfortunately it’s not. That being said, we’re pretty lucky to have a few state of the art fitness facilities to not only take our workouts indoors but also take them to another level. -Equinox is definitely one of those places and I’m happy to say that I’ll be acting as the brands official ‘Canadian Male Ambassador.’
With the help of personal trainers, classes and healthy meals readily available I have a feeling that I’m in good hands at Equinox. I mean with a motto like ” It’s not fitness. It’s life.” – How could I go wrong? That’s pretty much my own personal mandate. When it comes to your health it’s more than just taking a class or going for a run whenever you feel like it. It’s about making a commitment to yourself to always make time for those classes and runs,to not only see results but to feel your best. Equinox makes it easy to do that by having two locations in Toronto’s downtown core and also having locations in most major city’s in North America at your disposal when traveling.
What I’m most excited about with this partnership is the wide range of classes
I’ll be able to participate in. I’ve tried a few and have already found one that really pushes me; Precision Running
. – which also happens to be the newest addition to their schedule. No matter what level of runner you are this class really takes your training to another level with intervals focusing on speed, incline, duration and recovery. It’s the perfect class to take when you have limited amount of time but are looking for the most amount of burn.
Make sure to check back often as I’ll be speaking on my experience with Equinox and sharing tips
and secrets on how you can enrich your life through fitness and health.
Last friday, Catalyst Health & Christian Confidential hosted an intimate fitness event titled ‘Sweat With Christian.’ If you’re at all like me, I find it a bit harder to stay on track with my workout schedule during the colder months and rely on group classes to help keep me motivated when I can’t necessarily find it within myself. Danielle from Catalyst & I came up with a wicked workout routine with a focus on legs and cardio for the #SweatWithChristian attendees. Did I mention that the 1 hour workout was fuelled by nothing but the best from Beyoncé?! Take a glimpse into what went down at Sweat With Christian.

“There’s a difference between interest & commitment. When you’re interested in doing something, you only do it when it’s convenient. When you’re committed to something, you accept no excuses; only results.” - Kenneth Blanchard
Thank you to Belmonte Raw – our official hydration sponsor for ensuring that we received all of the right nutrients post workout with their ‘Strength‘ juice. Strength juice is made up of grapefruit & spirulina – which provides consumers with the right amount of protein, vitamin C & amino acid to help repair & rebuild muscles.

Last week I got the chance to test out the new LunarGlide 6’s from Nike and I must admit I was pretty impressed. Great support and even better colorway this shoe did not disappoint. If you’re in the market for a new pair of kicks or training for an upcoming fall race, these could be the perfect shoes for you. Did I mention that these may or may not have helped me keep up with Lebron James during the #RunWithTheWinners ‘Toronto Edition’ run this past Sunday?!

Skipping is a very effective pre-workout warm up & a great heart rate elevator all around. I’ve heard that skipping for ten minutes has the same impact as running an eight minute mile, which makes it a high-burn exercise that has the added benefit of training your basic agility & body coordination, something that a lot of us could work on after spending a winter indoors. It’s also something that you can do anywhere & without a lot of equipment, making it great for athletes at all levels of sport.
