Brush up on your “Wine Knowledge” in time for the holidays with this special episode of Christian Confidential.
The Holidays are a time of indulgence – if you’re like me (and I know you are), you’re gearing up for a couple of busy weeks that will include a lot of champagne drinking, wine sipping, and the occasional celebratory shot or two… That said, as much as we may love our long nights out, they definitely do take a toll on our bodies. Symptom number one – the hangover. Consider the following recipe an early holiday gift from yours truly – this juice is filled with all kinds of healthy deliciousness and always leaves me feeling energized and reinvigorated after a night filled with (a little too much) festive cheer.
Spinach – helps the body’s circulatory system | Kale – full of antioxidants |Broccoli – the nutrients in broccoli help get rid of headaches | Parsley – helps cleanse the liver, kidneys, and urinary tract | Celery – helps calm down the nervous system | Cucumber – they taste great! | Green Apples – help remove toxins from the body | Lemon – helps continue the removal of toxins | Grapefruit – really good for cleansing the digestive system |
*and… a Juicer!
Thoroughly wash all vegetables and fruits! | Juice in the order that you feel best works for your machine – every one is different. | Don’t be afraid to use the stalks as well as the leaves, but separate the two first for the most juice! | I serve myself a glass and bottle the rest, with a good shake it’s good for a few days in the fridge.
This little gadget has been bringing an outsized bit of joy into my life lately. I’ve only had it for about two weeks but I can honestly say I’ve used it every day since I opened the box – it works well for me because it’s super light and very user friendly. I’m a bit of a wait-and-see guy when it comes to technology and my friends always bug me for being a slow-adaptor – when I say it’s easy to use, trust me. The sound quality is top-of-the-line and with about eight hours of battery life it keeps me going from the gym to my desk to getting ready for a night out without running out of juice. Even though it’s only the beginning of winter this thing has me excited about cottage nights, romantic picnics on the island, or laying by the pool … so many daydreams on these cold winter nights :P! If you’re looking for a cool holiday gift I’d recommend trying this bad boy out! A few more pics down below!
We all have those busy, errand-filled days where our outfit choices become less of a priority. With the Holiday Season upon us, those days have been happening a bit more often than I’d like, so much that I decided to dedicate a post to it! I definitely have my go-to casual pieces for those days when my mind is all over the place, things that I can throw together and know I still look stylish enough to be seen out and about.
This time of year it’s all about the sweater – this piece from Charlie Bymz is always a favourite because of its classic athletic cut. The white calls for a bit more attention – I’d be lying if I said I minded.
Sweatshirt – CHARLIE BYMZ | Spray On Denim – TOPMAN| Black Suede Boots – TOPMAN | Sunglasses – Dolce & Gabbana | Gold Watch – CARAVELLE New York
I recently had the opportunity to sit down with the ultra-talented John Varvatos at his label’s first flagship store in Canada. It was such a thrill – he was extremely charming and incredibly down to earth, an uncommon balance in someone so tremendously accomplished. He was in Canada celebrating two things, firstly the launch of his new store, and secondly, the release of his new book ‘Rock In Fashion’ which we spoke about here:
I haven’t really thought about it too much – I’ve been running around so much – it’s just very exciting. I grew up in Detroit and I’ve spent a lot of time in Canada. I dated someone while in College in Toronto for four years, I’ve been here a lot. I have an affinity to Toronto and I think that for North America this city, along with New York and LA, is very cosmopolitan. Even more than LA actually – it’s more global, more international.
The end message really is that fashion and rock and roll are totally intertwined, they’re totally incestuous. It started back in the 50s and it’s a relationship that’s just continued to evolve. As you go through the book it shows you that what goes around comes around. Young artists have taken cues from their influencers and made them their own, which is great, but the initial influence is still there – when you flip through the book you see some of the juxtaposition. You really can see it!
The section on tailoring really gets to the root of what I do. It’s everything – I had to narrow it from 200 images to 25. It was like tearing my heart out.
At the start of ‘Rock in Fashion’ you have an image of one of your collaborations with Converse – the model is wearing a shirt that says ‘Who the hell is John Varvatos?” – If you could answer in five words, what would you say?
Passionate, focussed, warm, friendly, and bald. If I could add a word, it would be humorous!
You might find one artist named Evelyn ‘Champagne’ King – that would be something people would not expect me to be listening to!
As much as I enjoy it, outdoor running is a season pursuit. This time last year I had definitely fled the elements and let mother nature reclaim the streets. That’s changed (for now, anyway) thanks to Nike’s Flash Pack collection. With an emphasis on comfortable warmth and heightened visibility they have made early winter runs something that I can actually look forward to. The Nike 5.0 + Shield kicks are more than just a beautiful pair of shoes – super light and form fitting I can’t imagine leaving these at home any time soon.
The staple piece in this collection is definitely the Nike Shield jacket – something you truly have to wear to appreciate. Ultra lightweight and perfectly temperate, I couldn’t be happier with how it kept me warm and dry throughout my run. The vibrant colours are both eye-catching and are also your best friend when it comes to staying safe on a dark street! Anyone who knows me personally will know that I’m not a fan of the cold – this piece has definitely changed my mind and expanded my winter workout regime. If you’re in the market for some high-quality outdoor winter workout gear this winter, I highly recommend giving this collection a test run!

Congratulations to Rihanna for being the first recipient of the American Music Awards Icon Award. That moment was definitely one of the highlights of the night as she was greeted on stage by her mother who shared a few uplifting words about her. Rihanna also looked stunning last night dawning a beautiful two piece ensemble designed by the legendary Jean Paul Gauthier. Let’s just say that even if she didn’t win an award, she still would have made the headlines with that outfit ;)!
Now that the craziness of Fashion Week is over I’m finding myself craving some at-home time with friends and loved ones. There’s nothing better than a great drink to help set you apart as the host-with-the-most! I tried this little concoction the other day & it will definitely be a fall staple this year.
Bulleit Bourbon | Grand Marnier | Bitters | Lemon | Ceres grapefruit juice | Orange
1. Fill your martini shaker with ice | 2.Pour 2 ounces of Bulleit Bourbon into the shaker | 3. Follow it up with 1 ounce of Grand Marnier | 4. Pour half an once of freshly squeezed lemon juice into the shaker | 5. Followed by half an ounce of Ceres grapefruit juice | 6. Add a couple of dashes of Bitters into the mix | 7. Shake it all up!
For this drink I used a coupe glass to take the look to the next level, but obviously any glass will do. Strain the cocktail into the glass and top it off with an orange swirl garnish.
There you have it – simple and delicious!
