The Perfect Sunday ft. Merchant Sons

@christianconfidential@christianconfidentialSince I started Christian Confidential (which seems like forever ago), my life has changed in so many ways. I’ve been very fortunate to have been able to work on some really cool projects, travel to places that I’ve only dreamed of and build some really great friendships along the way. That being said, when you’re running your own business it’s very easy to get caught up in all of the day-to-day tasks that you never really get a chance to ‘clock out’ from work. Over time, I’ve learned that this type of living is not sustainable and sooner than later you’ll end up burning out. It’s a tricky balance to try and grasp, especially if you’re a control freak (ahem meeee) and want to be involved in everything!

Three years ago, I spent a few months abroad living in Paris and really took a liking to their ‘way of living’. My favourite day of the week out there always happened to be Sunday. The energy of the city was different, there was a very ‘laid back’, ‘do things on your own time’ type of vibe that I loved. Since being back in Toronto, I’ve attempted to integrate that same ‘way of living’ as much as I can into my own life. Sunday is the one day for me, where I can wake up late (guilt-free) and put no real pressure on myself to complete things.

My friends over at Merchant Sons, a new home decor retailer based out of Toronto, Canada asked me to describe what the ‘perfect Sunday‘ looks like to me and instead of just telling them, I decided to take them along with me (and you guys, of course).

@christianconfidential@christianconfidentialLike I mentioned earlier, on Sunday I do as little or as much as I want. I may stay in bed until 11:00am and watch the latest release on Netflix (Chewing Gum, anyone?) or flip through magazines. I may go to the gym or I may go for a run through the city. I might meet up with the boys and grab brunch or an early dinner, or I might go catch a movie on my own.

For me, Sunday’s are about things being easy, which is also what I love about Merchant Sons. They create practical things that we all use on a regular basis with a mantra in mind of making life easier. Whether it’s cozy bedding sets, scented candles, blankets or pillows they’re all made to look great, provide comfort and support your lifestyle!

@christianconfidential

In collaboration with Merchant Sons, my team and I put together a little video + photos, giving you guys a glimpse into what a typical Sunday can look like for me. The main message that I want you guys to take away from this post is to always make time for yourself. As important as it is to work hard to achieve and attain the things that you want it’s just as important to recharge, reflect and relax.

The Homies

@CHRISTIANCONFIDENTIAL @CHRISTIANCONFIDENTIALSo… it legit feels like it’s been forever since I’ve last posted but here I am with some new material for you guys! Last week I was working on a cool lifestyle project with a Toronto based home interior company (Merchant Sons) that allowed me to involve some of my close friends in the process. Jason and Daniel aka my brothers and I spent an afternoon with a camera crew visiting some of the hidden gems in my neighbourhood. I love ‘working’ with these guys because it literally feels like we’re just hanging out. Daniel always has a new story to share and Jason is always full of positive energy.

Our last shoot location for the day was at a minimally designed coffee shop called, PUB PRK (Public Park). The Café  had a dope concrete wall across from it that I noticed and instantly wanted to shoot on. Earlier in the day, I styled the guys (and myself) in some of my favourite casual pieces and once we wrapped for the day we shot for a bit. The thing that I like most about these looks are that they’re all lit on their own but when they’re all captured together, the vibe is brought to another level. Each look is different but has an athletic, casual, spring vibe to them that ties them all together.  Stay tuned to see the final project featured on the blog later this week  but in the meantime enjoy the fashion aspect of it!

West Palm Beach

christian thompson | christian confidentialchristian thompson | christian confidentialWest Palm Beach, where do I begin? Let’s just say that it’s getting super cold in Toronto and if anyone even mentions to me that we should “go on a trip” to somewhere warm, I’m pretty much in! My best friend had a few days off of work and I happened to be free so we booked an impromptu trip to West Palm Beach. We had no idea what to expect, other than warm weather + a beach and to be honest that was good enough for me. West Palm is located in Florida and happens to be one of the healthiest places within the United States – crazy right?! We stayed at The Kimpton Tideline Ocean Resort which is located right off the beach and neighbours to the Four Seasons.

If you’re looking for a place to go and really have some quality time to yourself or with a special someone, West Palm Beach is a great option. Our day schedule consisted of working out, lounging by the beach and sipping on prosecco. At night we ventured out and socialized with the locals. One of the restaurants I fell in love with was Bucaan - their Sweet Corn Agnolotti pasta is a must try, so good! If you’re looking for nightlife action, everyone pretty much hangs out downtown in Delray Beach. This area is filled with restaurants and bars, one that I really liked was El Camino.

As always, I took a few pictures during my stay for you guys to check out – I hope you guys like them!

Hashtag #OOTD

christian confidential | christian thompson

I’ve got a short #OOTD post for you guys, that I think you’ll love! I’ve been really into track suits lately, and this is my latest purchase from Adidas – obviously! It’s one of the latest drops from their fall collection that I’m really feeling. I decided to keep the styling to a minimal and paired the suit with a white tank, some sneakers and a baseball cap. I’d rock this look on one of my many “I just wanna be comfortable days” while doing errands or meeting up with friends!

Earth Tones & Denim

Christian Confidential | Christian ThompsonI’ve got a short yet dope style post for you guys this evening. It’s technically not spring yet, but slowly and surely I’m starting to sprinkle in some more earthy tones and lighter colours into my staples. I decided to throw on some khaki joggers, a denim jacket (a must have spring staple), layered over a tanned coloured sweatshirt  and a longline tee. It’s casual, looks effortless and super comfortable!

The February Playlist

February Playlist | Christian ConfidentialHi guys, I’m back this week with my monthly playlist. February has been such a great month in so many ways, especially for music. We had releases from Rihanna, Beyonce and Kanye amongst others, that had the internet in a frenzy. I’m going to make a note to say that I didn’t include any songs from The Life of Pablo on this list as I haven’t ‘taken it in’ the way that I want to yet… so expect to see a lot of Kanye on the list next month. I’m not sure if it’s because February is the month of love but for some reason my playlist is 90% r&b but I’m loving it and I hope you do too! Continue Reading…

War Zone

War Zone | Christian ConfidentialCan you guys believe that it’s February already?! Honestly, the way that time is flying by,definitely freaks me out. Which kind of leads me to my point for this blog post. Over the last few months, I’ve learned more & more how valuable time truly is and how important it is, not to waste it. Here are a few things that I’ve been putting into action lately and have seen some pretty stellar results so far.

1. If there’s something that you want to do write it down! By writing your goals down it makes you feel more responsible to follow through with them. Brainstorm ideas, create a plan and put it into action. Trust me when I say, nothing feels more fulfilling than being able to check things off your bucket list.
2. Stop caring about what other people think. This one is much easier said than done, but it’s definitely worth attempting. In the past I’ve let the opinions of others prevent me from doing things that I wanted to do and over time realized that if I’m not hurting anyone and it makes me happy, I’m going to do it! Life is too short to not do the things that you love!
3. Cut out the dead weight in your life! Energy is very contagious and being surrounded by people with negative energy is toxic and draining. Don’t get me wrong, we all have bad days but if every interaction with a ‘friend’ or ‘lover’ leaves you feeling some type of way… it’s time to let them go. It can be hard at first but once it’s done you’ll be thankful that you did.
4. Lastly, trust in yourself and the timing of your life. I’ve shared this with you guys before but I can’t stress how important it is. A lot of us hold super high expectations for ourselves and if we don’t meet those expectations by a specific time frame we get really down. I’ve learned that what’s meant to be, will happen when it’s the right time (in all areas of life). Your sole responsibility is to work hard, have patience, be positive and be ready when the opportunity presents itself.
If you’ve got any tips that you’d like to share with me, give me a shout, I’m always looking to learn new things christian@christianconfidential.com

Street Style Guide Pt.2

Processed with VSCOcam with hb1 presetProcessed with VSCOcam with hb1 presetAs promised, we’re back this week with part two of our ‘Street Style’ guide! The thing that I love about street style and fashion in general is that it’s totally your choice of how creative or simple you want to be with it. I always tell my boys that finding a happy medium within those two ends of the spectrum is the best way to go.

TIP: Don’t be afraid to go against the grain. Fashion is all about having fun and expressing yourself! Try on those fitted denim, rock those all black overalls! At the end of the day, you’ll know if it works for you or not. Processed with VSCOcam with hb1 presetProcessed with VSCOcam with hb1 preset
As I mentioned in part 1 street style is all about swag, and finding your own way of rocking an outfit is the fun part about it.
TIP: An easy way of bringing more depth into your outfit is by layering. Yes, layering, it’s not only for your preppy inspired looks anymore. Look at Kanye West, one of my favourite street style guys, you’ll very rarely find him wearing only one tee or crewneck.  Try experimenting with different lengths and fabrics when putting your outfits together. For example; I styled Daniel with a simple denim button up and complimented it with a long line tee underneath. image1
When in doubt dress from the bottom up. I don’t know if a lot of people do this or it’s just me because of my love of sneakers but I tend to find it easier. Knowing the type of kicks that you want to wear and building your outfit around them is a trick that I like to use a lot.
TIP: Slender kicks are your best friends when it comes to skinny jeans and hi-tops are your best friends when it comes to joggers. If you’re on a budget grab yourself a pair of black and white  Hi-Tops! They pair well with the style of bottoms above, super versatile and the more you wear them, the more character they have. Processed with VSCOcam with hb1 presetPhotography by: Shayna Desir for ChristianConfidential.comProcessed with VSCOcam with hb1 preset
Thanks for coming back and checking out part two of our ‘Street Style’ guide! Hopefully you guys found the tips informative and got to take a thing or two out of this post. As always, don’t be afraid to drop me a line if you have any questions or comments!

Street Style Guide Pt.1 | Style Post

christian confidentialIt’s Fashion Week here in Toronto, and in celebration of it my team and I wanted to do something  special. We’ve put together a two part street style guide featuring some of my favourite pieces for the season. Within these visual guides, I’ve put together six looks that incorporate my essentials, statement pieces, minimalism, and swag. For me, when I think about what really draws me towards this style of dressing is that it embodies confidence. Not to take anything away from the dapper dudes, but 9 out of 10 guys look great in a suit, but with street style if it’s not done correctly you can very easily look like a hot mess. With street style it’s all about swag, you wear the clothes, don’t let the clothes wear you. christian confidentialchristian confidentialI styled my friends (Daniel & Jay) and myself in looks that showcase my take on street style. Fitted joggers, bombers, motto jackets, oversized tees, long line tees and fresh sneakers…sigh, you can’t forget about the sneakers!

TIP #1: When it comes to building your sneaker collection, start with the classics and when in doubt opt for pairs in black, white or grey. They’ll play the best with your outfits and never go out of style. christian confidential

I’ve said this before so it should come as no surprise that when it comes to clothes, as much as I search for dope fashion, I search just as much for comfort. Fashion Week is the perfect example for when opting for that edgy street look might come in handy. You’re running around from show to show to gift lounges to maybe even an after party or two! I don’t know about you but a pair of Tubulars sound like the ideal pair of shoes to be sporting on days like that. christian confidential
If you want to do street style right, a good item to have in your arsenal is a leather or faux leather jacket. The great thing about fast fashion these days is that you’re able to get nice pieces at affordable prices. For example; you wouldn’t believe how much the motto jackets that we’re wearing costs… you’ve gotta love Forever 21 for that.
TIP #2: Black is your best friend. I’ve never met a person that didn’t look great in black. It makes for the perfect base to build your outfits with, it’s super versatile and let’s you get away with repeating it more times than any other colour option. I stock up on black tanks, tees, basic sweatshirts and jeans all the time and it doesn’t have to cost you a lot. christian confidential
