Hi guys, I’m back on the blog today to share a cool travel post and contest that I’ve partnered on with Marriott International in celebration of Canada’s big 150! Marriott International decided to team up with a few canadian bloggers and have them visit various cities across the country to explore and take in some of Canada’s most known and hidden gems. For me, coincidentally, I was asked to visit Ottawa, which is actually my hometown so I was more than happy to participate. I’ll be sharing more about my favourite places to visit and things to do in a later post but for now I’ll be giving you guys a glimpse into my stay at The Westin (a hotel apart of the Marriott International family), and giving you guys the details on how you can potentially stay here as well by entering Marriott’s Epic Canada Adventure Sweepstake!
Whenever I’m looking for a hotel to stay at in a new city, I always pay close attention to the location. Is it central, is it easy to get to, is it safe, are there good restaurants close by etc.. If you’re like me, then the Westin is perfect for you. It’s centrally located, easy to catch a cab, tons of tourist attractions nearby and has good restaurants (The Shore Club is located inside the hotel) and shopping literally steps away (Nordstrom anyone?!).
When designing my experience at the Westin, I wanted to make sure that I got to experience the best that they had to offer. I ended up staying in a beautiful Junior Suite that had floor to ceiling windows aka a lot of natural light and the perfect view of the Parliament. The Westin hotel is all about making sure their guests move, feel, work and play well. Whether you’re looking for healthy food options, spa services, dinner recommendations (the concierge staff was so helpful), a proper gym (they have two and a pool), or comfortable meeting space, the Westin has it all covered! Additional perks of staying at this hotel, is that they have a run club that guests are encouraged to participate in and car service (sponsored by Cadillac) that you can have access to when booking certain suites.
Now, let’s talk about this contest – Marriott’s Epic Canada Adventure Sweepstakes! The contest launches today (June, 22nd) and will be open for four weeks. All you have to do to enter is visit Marriott Canada or SPG Canada. There will be a total of 5 contest winners from Canada and the United States, 3 of which will win ‘epic’ adventures at Marriott Canada locations and 2 will win ‘epic’ adventures at Starwood Canada locations. What’s included in these ‘epic’ adventures? Flight and accommodations for the contest winner and a guest, $1000.00 CAD spending money and a complimentary experience/activity.
I’ll be crossing my fingers for you guys, good luck!
This past weekend I challenged myself to step outside of my comfort zone and experience something that I’ve never done before. If you’ve been following along via social media you’re aware that my friends and I took a short trip to Hamilton, Ontario to part take in some outdoor activities.
With that being said, I’m excited to share with you all the third instalment of my #LiveBeautifully
lifestyle series in collaboration with Lacoste
. This time around I wanted to highlight the importance of living a healthy lifestyle, specifically the importance of being active and the benefits of eating healthy.
The last few weeks, we’ve been having beautiful weather so I wanted to find something that my friends and I could participate in that wasn’t apart of our regular physical activities (running, training, basketball) that still allowed us to catch up and be social. My creative partner suggested that we head over to Hamilton and go on a hike and that’s exactly what we did. I’m a city boy so I never really thought of hiking to be my ‘thing’ but after talking to my friends and seeing how enthusiastic they were about it, I was down to try it out and face my fear of heights!
We made our way over to Dundas Peak and Webster’s Falls which are both equally beautiful. It’s crazy to think that places like this have been so close by to us and it’s the first time we visited them.
The hike itself was great for a beginner. It wasn’t super long and had a lot of moments where you wanted to stop and take photos allowing you to take short breaks. We made it to the peak and decided to set up shop to eat our lunches courtesy of Belmonte Raw
and take in the view.
It was a hot day and my friends and I know the importance of staying hydrated and consuming the right types of food when being active. We all had specially made raw organic meals that were full of nutrients and vitamins to keep us happy and energized, along with juices and plenty of water. My favourite juice this time around was ‘Hydrate’
– it has activated charcoal, alkaline water, lemon and coconut sugar which is great for post workouts. It’s also great for hangovers but we’ll save those details for another post!
This was my first hike and I couldn’t of thought of a better group of friends to experience this with. We laughed, caught up on life and documented the experience through video and photos. Check out the video below to get a glimpse into our experience.

You guys know that I may not know the most about outdoors and or hiking but I do know a thing or two about fashion. I couldn’t talk about living beautifully and not mention my footwear or apparel. Call me crazy but hike or no hike, crisp white sneakers get me all the time. I decided to wear my new Ampthill LCR SPM
sneakers on this hike and they provided me with the right amount of comfort and stability to run around with my friends all day. If you’re not as much of a risk takers as I am to wear white on a hike, they also offer them in a grey colour way with red accents. The thing that I love about Lacoste and I’m sure I’ve mentioned it before is that they offer classic pieces that no matter what you’re doing (hiking, golfing, brunch, the movies) you always look sharp, which to me is what I call living beautifully!
I had such a great time on this little adventure and I hope that it encourages you all to be more active and to try new things! Be active, eat clean, explore new places, wear nice clothes and shoes while doing it all!
If you follow me on Instagram, you would’ve seen that last week I was appointed the title of a #BRawAgent and participated in a 5 day juice cleanse. This wasn’t my first juice cleanse but it was my longest by an additional two days. Having worked with the brand in the past ‘The Circle’ – luncheon and ‘Sweat With Christian’, I knew that I was in good hands. Everyday, I was delivered a fresh batch of organic cold pressed juice between the hours of 5am and 8am with a schedule and guidelines on when to consume them. I followed the schedule and consumed a lot of water in between juices and went on with my day. The only real adjustment that I made was to my workout regimen. I brought down the intensity of my workouts to accommodate the amount of calories that I was consuming.
The main benefit of being on a juice cleanse is to give your digestive system a break from it’s everyday heavy duties of breaking down solid foods. In addition to giving your digestive system a break a lot of people lose weight, release toxins and gain glowing skin from being on a cleanse. I didn’t lose much weight but my skin does look and feel better. One thing I do really like about being on a cleanse is that because you follow a schedule, once completing it, you tend to continue out of habit. The last few days post cleanse, I’ve been eating earlier, more regularly and consuming more water.
If you’re in the market for a juice cleanse I would recommend trying out Belmonte Raw. If you’re a beginner, I think three days is sufficient as I found the 4th day really difficult but because I’m super stubborn I continued until the end. If you don’t think a cleanse is right for you, try incorporating juices into your diet. The nutrients that you can get from one juice is the equivalent to sometimes eating pounds of fruits and vegetables, which most of us never do. For more information and to see the various types of cleanses that you can participate in visit BelmonteRaw and let them know that I sent ya!
2014 has been an interesting year to say the very least. It has brought a lot of changes in my life but one thing that has remained consistent is my desire to stay healthy and active.
I wish I could say that Canada was one of those places that the weather permitted outdoor workouts all year round but unfortunately it’s not. That being said, we’re pretty lucky to have a few state of the art fitness facilities to not only take our workouts indoors but also take them to another level. -Equinox is definitely one of those places and I’m happy to say that I’ll be acting as the brands official ‘Canadian Male Ambassador.’
With the help of personal trainers, classes and healthy meals readily available I have a feeling that I’m in good hands at Equinox. I mean with a motto like ” It’s not fitness. It’s life.” – How could I go wrong? That’s pretty much my own personal mandate. When it comes to your health it’s more than just taking a class or going for a run whenever you feel like it. It’s about making a commitment to yourself to always make time for those classes and runs,to not only see results but to feel your best. Equinox makes it easy to do that by having two locations in Toronto’s downtown core and also having locations in most major city’s in North America at your disposal when traveling.
What I’m most excited about with this partnership is the wide range of classes
I’ll be able to participate in. I’ve tried a few and have already found one that really pushes me; Precision Running
. – which also happens to be the newest addition to their schedule. No matter what level of runner you are this class really takes your training to another level with intervals focusing on speed, incline, duration and recovery. It’s the perfect class to take when you have limited amount of time but are looking for the most amount of burn.
Make sure to check back often as I’ll be speaking on my experience with Equinox and sharing tips
and secrets on how you can enrich your life through fitness and health.
The Holidays are a time of indulgence – if you’re like me (and I know you are), you’re gearing up for a couple of busy weeks that will include a lot of champagne drinking, wine sipping, and the occasional celebratory shot or two… That said, as much as we may love our long nights out, they definitely do take a toll on our bodies. Symptom number one – the hangover. Consider the following recipe an early holiday gift from yours truly – this juice is filled with all kinds of healthy deliciousness and always leaves me feeling energized and reinvigorated after a night filled with (a little too much) festive cheer.
What You Need
Spinach – helps the body’s circulatory system | Kale – full of antioxidants |Broccoli – the nutrients in broccoli help get rid of headaches | Parsley – helps cleanse the liver, kidneys, and urinary tract | Celery – helps calm down the nervous system | Cucumber – they taste great! | Green Apples – help remove toxins from the body | Lemon – helps continue the removal of toxins | Grapefruit – really good for cleansing the digestive system |
*and… a Juicer!
A Few Pointers
Thoroughly wash all vegetables and fruits! | Juice in the order that you feel best works for your machine – every one is different. | Don’t be afraid to use the stalks as well as the leaves, but separate the two first for the most juice! | I serve myself a glass and bottle the rest, with a good shake it’s good for a few days in the fridge.
