Warm weather, laying out by the pool and tropical travel is finally upon us and it seems like it’s here to stay for a few months. This is my favourite time of the year and I plan on making the most of it. That being said, I find that my regular schedule gets a little more hectic and because of that my training schedule gets a little lighter. If you’re like me, you worked really hard over the winter months to have the body that you want and now is the time to show it off. Now that I can’t spend as much time in the gym I had to find a way to not only maintain what I’ve worked hard for but still see more results.
Shockwave is one of my favourite classes at Equinox and it checks off two main focuses for my summer training program 1. full body workouts and 2. high intensity training. A 45 minute session that gets your heart rate up with various circuit challenges that can consist of rowing, the use of body bars, kettle bells and Bosu balls just to name a few. You know that saying “The more you give, the more you get back”? It’s honestly the truth when it comes to this class, if you go in there and push yourself really hard throughout the whole class, the results can be insane. I definitely recommend trying it out! It’s been about 5 months since I’ve joined the Equinox family and I must admit it’s been such a great experience so far. I’ve learned a lot about my body in regards to my fitness and health and continue to be exposed to new and different ways of taking care of myself. I feel a little embarrassed admitting this but until recently I’ve never had a facial. I have fairly sensitive skin and I get really nervous when it comes to trying new products in fear that I’ll have a bad reaction. After speaking with Equinox’s aesthetician Cassandra, she ensured me that I was in good hands.I opted for the standard men’s facial and had the option of using all organic and non scented products. The whole experience was pretty great; dim lighting, the perfect music, and someone giving your face a gentle massage, I mean how can it not be? Cassandra broke down the experience in a series of 7 steps (cleanse, skin analysis, exfoliate/microdermabrasion, steam, extract, massage and mask). My favourite steps were the steam and the massage.I asked Cassandra for a few pointers on how guys should maintain their skin on their own and she highlighted the importance of using a serum at night, which helps keep the skin hydrated as well as adding a toner to your skin care regiment. It’s generally recommended to see your aesthetician for a standard facial every 4-6 weeks which will help in the pursuit of anti aging and regular maintenance of the skin. This was my first experience and I’m sure it won’t be my last. The spa also offers a variety of massages, waxing and a few other services for men. It’s been almost four months since I’ve joined Equinox and honestly I continue to learn new things regarding fitness and health every time I go. I’m no stranger to having a personal trainer so when I was approached by one of the clubs top trainers Marvin to do a few sessions with him, I immediately said yes. I told him the specific areas of my body that I wanted to work on (a stronger back to perfect my posture, more definition and maintain or lean out a little more) and he created a customized program for me. He introduced me to a couple new workouts that I could implement into my routine and helped me get comfortable with being uncomfortable. The thing that I love the most about having a personal trainer is that they expose you to new exercises and never let you quit. During the workout it’s perfectly normal to hate your trainer but trust me once it’s over you end up leaving with a huge smile on your face. If you feel like you’ve plateaued or are bored of your workouts, I’d suggest speaking to one of the personal trainers at Equinox and having them create a program for you. -Remember, Summer is right around the corner!

I got my hands on the MetCon1’s from Nike and let’s just say they’re quickly becoming one of my favourite shoes to workout in. – Pretty stylish as well, don’t be surprised if you see them in a street style post soon!
2014 has been an interesting year to say the very least. It has brought a lot of changes in my life but one thing that has remained consistent is my desire to stay healthy and active.
I wish I could say that Canada was one of those places that the weather permitted outdoor workouts all year round but unfortunately it’s not. That being said, we’re pretty lucky to have a few state of the art fitness facilities to not only take our workouts indoors but also take them to another level. -Equinox is definitely one of those places and I’m happy to say that I’ll be acting as the brands official ‘Canadian Male Ambassador.’
With the help of personal trainers, classes and healthy meals readily available I have a feeling that I’m in good hands at Equinox. I mean with a motto like ” It’s not fitness. It’s life.” – How could I go wrong? That’s pretty much my own personal mandate. When it comes to your health it’s more than just taking a class or going for a run whenever you feel like it. It’s about making a commitment to yourself to always make time for those classes and runs,to not only see results but to feel your best. Equinox makes it easy to do that by having two locations in Toronto’s downtown core and also having locations in most major city’s in North America at your disposal when traveling.
What I’m most excited about with this partnership is the wide range of classes
I’ll be able to participate in. I’ve tried a few and have already found one that really pushes me; Precision Running
. – which also happens to be the newest addition to their schedule. No matter what level of runner you are this class really takes your training to another level with intervals focusing on speed, incline, duration and recovery. It’s the perfect class to take when you have limited amount of time but are looking for the most amount of burn.
