The Perfect Sunday ft. Merchant Sons

@christianconfidential@christianconfidentialSince I started Christian Confidential (which seems like forever ago), my life has changed in so many ways. I’ve been very fortunate to have been able to work on some really cool projects, travel to places that I’ve only dreamed of and build some really great friendships along the way. That being said, when you’re running your own business it’s very easy to get caught up in all of the day-to-day tasks that you never really get a chance to ‘clock out’ from work. Over time, I’ve learned that this type of living is not sustainable and sooner than later you’ll end up burning out. It’s a tricky balance to try and grasp, especially if you’re a control freak (ahem meeee) and want to be involved in everything!

Three years ago, I spent a few months abroad living in Paris and really took a liking to their ‘way of living’. My favourite day of the week out there always happened to be Sunday. The energy of the city was different, there was a very ‘laid back’, ‘do things on your own time’ type of vibe that I loved. Since being back in Toronto, I’ve attempted to integrate that same ‘way of living’ as much as I can into my own life. Sunday is the one day for me, where I can wake up late (guilt-free) and put no real pressure on myself to complete things.

My friends over at Merchant Sons, a new home decor retailer based out of Toronto, Canada asked me to describe what the ‘perfect Sunday‘ looks like to me and instead of just telling them, I decided to take them along with me (and you guys, of course).

@christianconfidential@christianconfidentialLike I mentioned earlier, on Sunday I do as little or as much as I want. I may stay in bed until 11:00am and watch the latest release on Netflix (Chewing Gum, anyone?) or flip through magazines. I may go to the gym or I may go for a run through the city. I might meet up with the boys and grab brunch or an early dinner, or I might go catch a movie on my own.

For me, Sunday’s are about things being easy, which is also what I love about Merchant Sons. They create practical things that we all use on a regular basis with a mantra in mind of making life easier. Whether it’s cozy bedding sets, scented candles, blankets or pillows they’re all made to look great, provide comfort and support your lifestyle!

In collaboration with Merchant Sons, my team and I put together a little video + photos, giving you guys a glimpse into what a typical Sunday can look like for me. The main message that I want you guys to take away from this post is to always make time for yourself. As important as it is to work hard to achieve and attain the things that you want it’s just as important to recharge, reflect and relax.

@CHRISTIANCONFIDENTIAL @CHRISTIANCONFIDENTIALSo… it legit feels like it’s been forever since I’ve last posted but here I am with some new material for you guys! Last week I was working on a cool lifestyle project with a Toronto based home interior company (Merchant Sons) that allowed me to involve some of my close friends in the process. Jason and Daniel aka my brothers and I spent an afternoon with a camera crew visiting some of the hidden gems in my neighbourhood. I love ‘working’ with these guys because it literally feels like we’re just hanging out. Daniel always has a new story to share and Jason is always full of positive energy.

Our last shoot location for the day was at a minimally designed coffee shop called, PUB PRK (Public Park). The Café  had a dope concrete wall across from it that I noticed and instantly wanted to shoot on. Earlier in the day, I styled the guys (and myself) in some of my favourite casual pieces and once we wrapped for the day we shot for a bit. The thing that I like most about these looks are that they’re all lit on their own but when they’re all captured together, the vibe is brought to another level. Each look is different but has an athletic, casual, spring vibe to them that ties them all together.  Stay tuned to see the final project featured on the blog later this week  but in the meantime enjoy the fashion aspect of it!

Street Style Guide Pt.2

Processed with VSCOcam with hb1 presetProcessed with VSCOcam with hb1 presetAs promised, we’re back this week with part two of our ‘Street Style’ guide! The thing that I love about street style and fashion in general is that it’s totally your choice of how creative or simple you want to be with it. I always tell my boys that finding a happy medium within those two ends of the spectrum is the best way to go.

TIP: Don’t be afraid to go against the grain. Fashion is all about having fun and expressing yourself! Try on those fitted denim, rock those all black overalls! At the end of the day, you’ll know if it works for you or not. Processed with VSCOcam with hb1 presetProcessed with VSCOcam with hb1 preset
As I mentioned in part 1 street style is all about swag, and finding your own way of rocking an outfit is the fun part about it.
TIP: An easy way of bringing more depth into your outfit is by layering. Yes, layering, it’s not only for your preppy inspired looks anymore. Look at Kanye West, one of my favourite street style guys, you’ll very rarely find him wearing only one tee or crewneck.  Try experimenting with different lengths and fabrics when putting your outfits together. For example; I styled Daniel with a simple denim button up and complimented it with a long line tee underneath. image1
When in doubt dress from the bottom up. I don’t know if a lot of people do this or it’s just me because of my love of sneakers but I tend to find it easier. Knowing the type of kicks that you want to wear and building your outfit around them is a trick that I like to use a lot.
TIP: Slender kicks are your best friends when it comes to skinny jeans and hi-tops are your best friends when it comes to joggers. If you’re on a budget grab yourself a pair of black and white  Hi-Tops! They pair well with the style of bottoms above, super versatile and the more you wear them, the more character they have. Processed with VSCOcam with hb1 presetPhotography by: Shayna Desir for ChristianConfidential.comProcessed with VSCOcam with hb1 preset
