New York Photo Diary

@christianconfidentialIf you’ve been a long time reader of my blog, then you know to expect a photo diary (almost), every time that I travel. I love creating these type of posts because, it allows me to relive my travels whenever I want and also encourages me to seek beautiful moments wherever I am.

Sigh, where do I even begin.. I love New York and this trip really made me realize how much I’ve missed it! It’s honestly one of those cities that awakens me no matter what season, reason for visiting or the length of time I’m there. As I mentioned in my previous post, I was visiting New York for World Pride with Mastercard, which was such a cool experience on its own.  Even though this was a work trip, I did have some free time to explore the city, eat some good food and do a little bit of partying!

As always, I snapped a few photos along the way and have linked some of my favourite places I visited throughout this trip.

A lot of changes have been happening (AGAIN  haha) in my life and I’ll be back to share them with you shortly! Honestly, 2019 has been the year of change for me and although it hasn’t always been pretty, I finally feel like something amazing is on the horizon for me. If any of you guys are dealing with uncertainty or having a difficult time adjusting to change, just know that it’s only temporary and if you hold on a little longer you’ll get through it and be better for it!

World Pride NYC with MasterCard!

@christianconfidential

So, I’m back on the blog today coming off the high of being in New York for World Pride. Jay Strut and I had the pleasure of flying in for the weekend and participating in a few cool activations around the celebration, thanks to Mastercard!

Pride month has to be one of my favourite months of the year. It’s filled with so much positive energy, excitement and is an opportunity to learn more about the LGBTQ+ community’s history, current initiatives and future goals for equality and inclusivity.

On Saturday, Jay and I had the opportunity to attend Pride Island – which was like being at a music festival on a pier that began in the day and finished at night. The highlights for me from Pride Island were getting to see Teyana Taylor and the iconic Grace Jones perform. Another highlight was having full access to the Mastercard lounge where we were able to chill, charge our phones and recharge with a cocktail! As much as I loved watching the performances, crowds are definitely not my favourite thing so it was great to have an area that we could chill out at between performances and catch our breath.

On Sunday, Jay and I attended Pride Fest, which was also a cool experience! It’s basically like a street party, with performances and brand activations happening throughout. We stopped by the Mastercard booth, which ended up being the highlight of the entire trip. I got to see one of my closest friends Jay get her FIRST EVER payment card with her chosen name on it! This might not be a big deal to everybody but for some members of the LGBTQ+ community this is major! To witness my friend beam with excitement and joy once her card was created was something else -I couldn’t have been happier!

Mastercard made this possible through its introduction of the True Name card, which calls on the industry to allow transgender and non-binary people in particular to have their chosen name on their personal debit, credit or prepaid card.

For me, I couldn’t think of a better way to end the month of Pride than with this experience. Even though this may not affect me personally, to see how big of an impact this moment had on one of my closest friends warms my heart. If there’s anything that I can always get behind, it’s the push for inclusivity!

New Chapter < New Book

@christianconfidential

Sigh…where do I even begin? The last few months have been a whirlwind of a time for me, to say the least. Filled with highs and lows, ups and downs and every single emotion in between. At the end of March 2019, I took my life into my own hands and made a move across the pond.

I recently shared a little bit about my personal struggle with depression over the last few years on my IGTV and without going to into too much details, I was very unhappy, uninspired and overall unfulfilled. These feelings really played a toll on my spirit and caused me to disconnect from people, things that I love and made me question everything. I knew that this was not something that I wanted to feel forever and I knew that it was my responsibility to get myself out of this rut.

Maybe it’s a career change? Maybe it’s a change of scenery? Maybe it’s more self discovery? Maybe it’s a lack of a love life? Maybe it’s all of the above?

I took a lot of time to really examine my thoughts, to find different ways to release negative energy (journaling, meditation, singing, exercising) and to just pay more attention to the signs that the universe was sending me.

I had created a plan to move to Paris last September and before making the final steps to put that plan into motions, it just didn’t feel right. I can’t really explain it but I had this gut feeling that just kept telling me that it wasn’t the right move.

After a spontaneous trip to London in November, something clicked. I kept asking the universe to send me a sign if this wasn’t the place that I should be and the complete opposite occurred. I got the same feeling that I had received before moving to Toronto (I’m originally from Ottawa, Canada).

I came back home and started to put a loose plan together and a few months later, I took the leap. I’m not committing to a specific amount of time to stay here, I’m just committing to doing what feels right for me. Life is crazy and so unpredictable and I just want to live more in the present and work on being the best person, that I can be. @christianconfidentialToronto, will always be home and I’ll be going back and forth for the next little while to work on a few projects that I have lined up. So no worries, you’ll still me around doing what I do best – having fun!

In regards to my blog and social content, I’m still here! Honestly, I feel like this change will be good for me, to help inspire me and push myself more creatively. I thought long and hard about it and there’s no way I could leave this industry. I’ve been in fashion, music and or entertainment in some capacity since I was 6 years old – it’s all I know! I love it and I truly do feel like it’s the avenue to help push my life’s purpose.

That being said, I do feel like it’s time to step it up and make a few changes to my content and where I’d like to take my brand. I really want to push more video content whether it be style guides/tips as well as touch on more personal topics. I’ve been doing a lot more work as a men’s fashion expert for television segments and I think that I’m leaning towards pursuing more opportunities of that nature.

Anyways, this is probably one of the longest post I’ve written in a very long time so we’ll just end it here.

This was the first look that I shot since I’ve been in London and I absolutely love it! It’s edgy, it’s street and it’s my total vibe at the moment.   I’ve been living in these Saint Laurent Paris Wyatt boots now that there’s no snow where I am. I think they just elevate any look with their sleek silhouette, so I’m sure you’ll be seeing more of them in my upcoming posts. The leather biker pants are from the HM x Moschino collaboration and they’re so fire! It’s my first time really wearing them out and I got so many compliments on them, it was crazy! Scroll down to see more images from this look and thank you guys for continuing to support me and my endeavours – it means so much more than you know!

Followed My Heart To London

@christianconfidential

 So…where do I begin? Honestly, I’ve never had an interest in visiting London. Over the last 4 years, I’ve been to Paris at least twice a year and even stayed there for 3 months at one point and I never felt the urge to take the train over to visit London. Truthfully, I didn’t know much about the city but this year it seemed like the universe kept subtly pointing me towards London. Whether it was recommendations from friends, collaboration opportunities from UK based brands or other little signs, it’s like the city was calling my name.

So, like the Gemini that I am, I packed a suitcase and headed to London for a week. Not knowing what to expect or if I’d like it, I went there with no expectations and an open mind. I stayed in Shoreditch (east end, close to central) and made my way to the many boroughs in the city (Chelsea, Kensington, Notting Hill, Soho, Mayfair).

Honestly, I fell in love with the city and wished I could’ve extended my trip but I had a flight booked for a press trip in New York the day of my scheduled return. The best way that I can describe London is, it’s a mash up of New York meets Paris. It’s multicultural, it’s modern, it’s historic, it’s fast pace, it’s clean, it has everything you could ask for (except for shorter travel times haha).

I had a few work things that I had to get done while I was there but other than that, I spent my time exploring the city and getting a real vibe of the place. I have a few friends that live in the city and they made sure to point me in the right direction of places to go and even tagged along to some of them (Shoreditch House, The Curtain, Sketch, Harrods, Barry’s Bootcamp, White City House, LPM, Sexy Fish).

This trip was a little different for me, I really tried to stay in the moment as much as I could and therefore didn’t take too many photos or create much content. That being said, Scroll down below to take a look at some of the moments that I did capture and hopefully you can get a bit of a vibe of my stay.

I’ll be back a lot sooner than expected but I’ll save more of those details for a later post.

Celebrations In Miami

@christianconfidentialHello friends, did you miss me?!  I really have to get better at these frequent updates, it’s nuts and not cool.. sigh.

On another note, I was in Miami earlier this week celebrating one of my best friends birthdays and I’ve got a little travel diary for you guys. I really enjoy taking lifestyle pictures and just capturing the moments when they’re happening and although this trip was short there were plenty of memories created!

Anytime Zineb, Kenza and I are together, it’s always full of inside jokes and fun. I’ve known them both for about 10 years now, so when Zineb said she wanted to celebrate her birthday in Miami, I was all the way in! Most of the trip we spent our time eating great food ( Prime Italian, Carpaccio, La Petite Maison), drinking champagne + wine, laying out by the plunge pool (The Edition)  and doing some retail therapy ( Bal Harbour).

Miami literally feels like a second home to me now but I swear every time I visit, I discover  somewhere new. This time it was the restaurant La Petite Maison.. OMG, the food was so good! Zineb and her fiancé Daniel (aka my tequila shot brother) always gush about this restaurant in Dubai and insisted that we go to their Miami location for her birthday dinner.  If you’re into French cuisine and love a great cocktail, the next time you’re in Miami, you have to try it!

If you’re following me on Instagram (@christianconfidential) and watched my stories, you know that I was obsessing over a specific pair of Balenciaga Speed Trainers. I’ve actually wanted a pair for a while now and every time I went to purchase them they never had my size in the colour way that I wanted. Well, on our second trip to Bal Harbour (yes, second haha), I decided to ask about their latest drop of the Speed Trainers  and not only did they have my size, once I tried them on I knew I had to get them (sigh…). I can’t wait to show you guys how I style them!

That being said, scroll on down and check out these images that I captured on the trip. I also promise that I’ll be back sooner than later with some more style content for you guys.

xoxo

Going Places

@christianconfidentialSo, I just got back from Montreal for Osheaga with H&M and I have to say that it was such a crazy experience! I’m thinking about doing a blog post about the whole experience featuring festival fashion, my favourite performances and other random captured moments  (like these photos) – so look out for it. I had no intention on making this look into a post but on my way to brunch over the weekend, it’s like everything just fell into place.

I picked up this hoodie at the pop-up shop that Places+Faces were having that weekend hosted by my good friends from CNTRBND. Originally, I was opting for the black colour way but at the last moment I went for the purple just to switch things up – and I’m glad that I did!

I paired it with my favourite vintage distressed shorts and my Yeezy 500’s and it just became a LOOK!

Birthday Behaviour

@christianconfidential

So… if you know me well, you know that I’m very indecisive when it comes to celebrating my birthday. Some times, I want a big party, some times I want to be alone, some times I need to travel and some times I want to be at home (very rarely though). Last year, a few close friends and I jetted off to Miami for a very w-i-l-d celebration and honestly it was exactly what I needed. This year, all I wanted was a quiet celebration by the beach by myself or with a friend or two.

June is always such a busy month for me (fashion week, music festivals and pride) that it usually makes it difficult to get time off to celebrate my birthday. That being said, I knew I wanted warm weather, a beach view and champagne and I was determined to make that happen. My close friend Shayna and I decided that since we only had three days to spare, Miami would make for the perfect backdrop.

We found a newly opened hotel in Bal Harbour that we wanted to try out (Grand Beach), and made it our home base. I love travelling with Shayna because she gets me. She’s not needy and we can hang out together and have the best time or do our own thing without it being a big deal. We shared laughs, deep conversations, ate great food (Cecconi’s, Carpaccio, Byblos) and drank some bubbly every step of the way.

All in all, I had a great time and wouldn’t have changed a thing (except for maybe some more time)! I snapped a couple photos along the way so feel free to scroll down and take a look.

Once again I just want to say thank you again for all of the warm messages – it really does mean a lot to me!

New Orleans

Boho Inspired

@christianconfidential

So… I’m back on the blog today from the beautiful city known as New Orleans! I let you guys know that I was taking a random trip out here and didn’t know what to expect and let’s just say that it’s the best decision I’ve made in 2018 thus far. I don’t want to say too much until I share my photo diary but I couldn’t wait to post this Boho inspired look, that I shot.

This look is different from what you’re probably used to seeing from me but I’m branching out a little and really trying to embrace new styles this year. I always use clothes as a way to express myself and right now I’m feeling very light hearted, creative and open minded. I wore this look out to lunch on my second day in New Orleans and loved it so much that I just HAD to shoot it. It’s colourful, it’s light and gives off an elevated Boho vibe!

I’ve got a couple more looks that I shot out here + my photo diary that I can’t wait to share with you all!

Your Personal Stylist: Ask Perry Ellis

@christianconfidential @christianconfidential @christianconfidential@christianconfidential

The holiday season is one of the busiest times of the year, for most people. Whether it’s filled with end of the year client meetings, holiday parties or family get togethers, there’s always an occasion that you have to attend. For myself, I can find these added social obligations to be a little stressful, especially when it comes to deciding on what to wear.

As most of you know, my everyday style tends to lean more on the edgy and athleisure side. So when it comes to dressing up for multiple holiday events, I’ll admit that I get a little self-conscious about putting a bunch of looks together.

That being said, my friends over at Perry Ellis in collaboration with Amazon have a new tool that’ll help you never skip out on an event because you  ” don’t have anything to wear”.

If you Ask Alexa to Ask Perry Ellis, what to wear to a specific event, Alexa now acts as your personal stylist. Ask Alexa will send outfit suggestions straight to your app and email with direct purchasing links. She takes into consideration weather, venue and dress code when it comes to attire recommendations. The best part about this whole experience is that you can do it all in the comfort of your own home or in my case, hotel suite!

I think that this skill is a great way to add valuable pieces over time that may be missing in your wardrobe and to ensure that you’re on the right track when you’re putting your outfit together. You always want to leave a lasting impression on your guests so why not get a head start by ensuring you look your best!

To find out more information on how to get the Ask Perry Ellis skill for Amazon Alexa visit here.
