New York

New York Through My iPhone

So… New York is always a good idea, even during the holidays! I just came back from spending a bit over a week in New York and I must say that it was the perfect plot twist to bring 2022 to a close. I haven’t been back to New York since the pandemic and trust me, it’s been long overdue. I was supposed to be there for Fashion Week in September and at the last minute I had to cancel, so this time around when the opportunity presented itself, I said yes without hesitation.

I stayed in East Village, and made my way around the city to all of my favourite pockets (Midtown, Soho, Meatpacking District). There’s something about New York that just brings you out of your shell and let’s you embrace new things – which I absolutely love! On my first night in the city, I trekked to Madison Square Garden (solo) to watch the Raptors play against the New York Knicks. I’ve been to basketball games before but never solo and never in New York. It was such a cool experience and we won, lol.

I ate a lot of good food (L’Avenue at Saks, Miss Lily’s, Nobu), discovered some new places (The Nines, Gemma at The Bowery hotel, Pineapple Club), got a palm reading, saw the new Whitney Houston movie, met up with some friends and so much more!

As always, I took pictures along the way and had to make a Photo Diary. I left my camera at home this trip and shot everything on my iPhone 13 Pro and I must say I wasn’t let down once. I’ve had the 13 for a while now and the various camera lens options has to be my favourite feature. I get so many compliments when I shoot with the macro lens, it really captures the details like no other camera phone. That being said, keep scrolling and enjoy some of the images I took along the way!

Kicking-Off NYFW with ET Canada

So, I’ve just wrapped my first on-camera segment of 2022 and it was a cute! It was with my friends over at ET Canada, myself, Stacey McKenzie and Keshia Chante discussed our favourite winter trends, gave our thoughts on Men’s Fashion Week and what to expect for New York Fashion Week!

I love working with those girls! We’ve all known each other for quite some time and have great chemistry in person and on camera. I’m hoping that this year we’ll be heading back in studio to film fashion panels as it’s much more fun. I’m also manifesting that i’ll be on camera a lot more this year either as myself or as a character that reflects who I am – fingers crossed!

I wanted to give y’all a closer look at my outfit for the show. I went for an all-black vibe with pops of colour in my accessories, lol gold and silver. I wore an oversized blazer with some pleated wide-leg trousers from COS. I got so many questions about my bracelets and they’re from Lisa Gozlan and my monogram C necklace which is from Jenny Bird.

I’ve included the link to the segment here, feel free to give it a watch!

Street Style

Lace-Effect

@christianconfidential So, I really made the most of my time while in New York and even got a chance to shoot some street style content for the blog. This is a look that I put together, incorporating a trend that came up a lot during Men’s Week (New York, London, Milan & Paris) – lace shirts and blazers. The moment that I saw ASAP Rocky sporting this trend, I was on the hunt for the perfect rendition to style my own way. I decided to dress up the trend this time with some wide-leg trousers, statement sunglasses and my signature harness boots.

I’m really happy with the way this look turned out, it’s definitely not going to be for everyone but for the fashion forward thinking guy, I’d suggest giving it a shot!

New York Photo Diary

@christianconfidentialIf you’ve been a long time reader of my blog, then you know to expect a photo diary (almost), every time that I travel. I love creating these type of posts because, it allows me to relive my travels whenever I want and also encourages me to seek beautiful moments wherever I am.

Sigh, where do I even begin.. I love New York and this trip really made me realize how much I’ve missed it! It’s honestly one of those cities that awakens me no matter what season, reason for visiting or the length of time I’m there. As I mentioned in my previous post, I was visiting New York for World Pride with Mastercard, which was such a cool experience on its own.  Even though this was a work trip, I did have some free time to explore the city, eat some good food and do a little bit of partying!

As always, I snapped a few photos along the way and have linked some of my favourite places I visited throughout this trip.

A lot of changes have been happening (AGAIN  haha) in my life and I’ll be back to share them with you shortly! Honestly, 2019 has been the year of change for me and although it hasn’t always been pretty, I finally feel like something amazing is on the horizon for me. If any of you guys are dealing with uncertainty or having a difficult time adjusting to change, just know that it’s only temporary and if you hold on a little longer you’ll get through it and be better for it!

World Pride NYC with MasterCard!

@christianconfidential

So, I’m back on the blog today coming off the high of being in New York for World Pride. Jay Strut and I had the pleasure of flying in for the weekend and participating in a few cool activations around the celebration, thanks to Mastercard!

Pride month has to be one of my favourite months of the year. It’s filled with so much positive energy, excitement and is an opportunity to learn more about the LGBTQ+ community’s history, current initiatives and future goals for equality and inclusivity.

On Saturday, Jay and I had the opportunity to attend Pride Island – which was like being at a music festival on a pier that began in the day and finished at night. The highlights for me from Pride Island were getting to see Teyana Taylor and the iconic Grace Jones perform. Another highlight was having full access to the Mastercard lounge where we were able to chill, charge our phones and recharge with a cocktail! As much as I loved watching the performances, crowds are definitely not my favourite thing so it was great to have an area that we could chill out at between performances and catch our breath.

On Sunday, Jay and I attended Pride Fest, which was also a cool experience! It’s basically like a street party, with performances and brand activations happening throughout. We stopped by the Mastercard booth, which ended up being the highlight of the entire trip. I got to see one of my closest friends Jay get her FIRST EVER payment card with her chosen name on it! This might not be a big deal to everybody but for some members of the LGBTQ+ community this is major! To witness my friend beam with excitement and joy once her card was created was something else -I couldn’t have been happier!

Mastercard made this possible through its introduction of the True Name card, which calls on the industry to allow transgender and non-binary people in particular to have their chosen name on their personal debit, credit or prepaid card.

For me, I couldn’t think of a better way to end the month of Pride than with this experience. Even though this may not affect me personally, to see how big of an impact this moment had on one of my closest friends warms my heart. If there’s anything that I can always get behind, it’s the push for inclusivity!

Soho

Casual Meets Luxe

@christianconfidential

So, this will be my last street style post from my New York trip! I am all caught up and ready for my next adventure, which happens to be, this weekend! I’m heading to New Orleans for the first time and I’m hella excited. It’s crazy because I think the part that gets me the most excited is the fact that I have no clue what to expect! I haven’t traveled somewhere new since Los Angeles in October (so nuts). As always, I’ll be documenting my trip for you guys so you’ll hear all about it (good or bad) haha!

Anyways, back to this look. I really like the way this outfit came together. The sneakers make it casual, yet the jacket gives it a more luxe vibe all at the same time. If I were to go on a lunch date in Soho, I would say this would be my perfect outfit!

Plaid in Soho

@christianconfidential

I’ll never turn down a chance to visit New York and I’ll never visit New York without spending at least a day in Soho. There’s something about this area that really resonates with me and I wouldn’t have it any other way. The architecture, the colour palette, the boutiques, the cafés, the restaurants, I just can’t get enough!

I was in a mood this day and felt like dressing a little different than my usual ensembles. I got these plaid pants  from H&M before heading to New York  and thought that this would be the perfect opportunity to break them in. I love the way that the outfit came together and Soho made for the perfect back drop to capture these photos – I hope that you guys enjoy them!

Behind-The-Scenes+ Runway Moments with Perry Ellis at NYFWM

@christianconfidential@christianconfidential

As promised in my previous blog post, I have more content to share from my project with Perry Ellis around their latest runway show! If you guys were following along on social media last week, you know that I was in New York for Men’s Fashion Week and working on a cool behind-the-scenes collaboration with Perry Ellis.

The morning of the show, I spent some time in the Perry Ellis showroom going through their massive (and I mean MASSIVE) archive collections to put together a look for the show. I’m not going to lie, I felt like a kid in a candy store with all of the options that I had to choose from. I ended up narrowing it down to my top three looks and with your guys help via Instagram, I opted for the look below.
@christianconfidnetial

The hustle and bustle during a show at New York Fashion Week is like no other! You’ve got a full crew of make up artists, hairstylists, male models, dressers, pr,  photographers, videographers, bloggers etc… it’s nuts! When I arrived, the models were just getting ready to run through their final rehearsal and then  back upstairs for any last minute make up touches and into their first look!

10 minutes before the show began, I made my way downstairs to be seated and catch up with a few of my blogger buddies attending the show.

The show had a very clean and minimal routine for the models, allowing guests to really take in the clothing. I, myself was a huge fan of this presentation, specifically as I felt that it gave a true nod to the heritage of the brand. There was a lot of vintage feels coming down the runway, especially the jackets (which I love) but with a modern twist.

The thing that I liked the most about this collection was that there was something to wear for every occasion in a man’s every day life. It really showed how much thought the creative director Michael Maccari and his team put into it all. .

I can’t wait to get my hands on some of those pieces and see what they come up with next!

Through The Lens Of My iPhone X : New York Fashion Week Men’s

@christianconfidential@christianconfidential

Fresh off my return from Men’s Week in New York, I’ve put together my latest photo diary for you guys! This trip to New York was like no other, filled with magical moments, a constant high and energy rush that words can’t describe. From presentations to runway shows, to meetings at the Empire State building to random nights out, I literally got a taste of everything except time to relax (but who needs that?!) haha!

The week before heading to New York I got my hands on the latest iPhone X and I decided to wait until my trip to truly test it out! I heard great things about the X but I didn’t realize how much of a beast it was, until using it. It took a minute for me to adjust to the new system (taking screenshots is different on the X haha) but after I got the hang of it, I was more than good to go! My favourite thing about the X… the camera (obviously)!

The camera on this phone literally made this work trip so much easier for me. When you’re attending fashion week events, everything happens so quickly and as a blogger you’re trying to see and capture EVERYTHING! Usually, I find myself  switching between 3 devices to capture the best content –  which can be stressful. This time around, I was able to solely use the iPhone X during  shows and presentations.

Instead of telling you guys all about it, I’d rather show you. Every photo in this blog post was both shot and edited using only my iPhone X and the apps I have on it – isn’t that crazy?

If you love blurred backgrounds in your street style photos, you can create that effect easily in portrait mode and can also create that effect with the front camera too (elevate your selfie game)!

These images are highlights from some of my favourite moments during Men’s Week. From hanging out at the LAB SERIES lounge at Men’s Day to getting a tour of the Sean John showroom, to lunch at Freds, to cocktails at the King Cole Bar to working on an exclusive project with Perry Ellis (more on this to come) see it all below!
